Welcome to my website! I'm Tyler Fenske, a Ph.D. student at the Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), part of the University of Miami. I'm a part of Dr. Amy Clement's lab, studying climate variability and change. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Houston. I attended Texas A&M University for my undergraduate studies, where I earned a B.S. in Meteorology. I also focused on oceanography, computer science, and statistics.
I am a fifth year Ph.D. student at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science. My research focuses on low-frequency internal climate variability. Currently, I am using large ensemble climate model data to analyze a possible link between Northern Hemisphere ocean basins.
I enjoy mentoring others, learning and synthesizing new material, and programming. I particularly enjoy the data analytics and problem-solving aspects of coding: working with large datasets, finding ways to derive meaning from the data, and communicating this meaning clearly and effectively. My ideal future career will feature work related to these personal interests.
I am presently a member of the AGU Early Career Committee and the AMS Future Meetings Task Force. I served on the Student Conference Planning Committee for a total of five years. I was a student member of the AMS Board for Climate Variability and Change for two years. I also participated in several student organizations at both Texas A&M and the Rosenstiel School
I Co-chaired the 2021 and 2022 AMS Student Conferences. With two other co-chairs and a student committee of nearly 50 graduate students, we planned and organized a two-day conference for undergraduate students in meteorology. The conference's goal is to help undergraduate students better understand what it's like to be a part of the atmospheric sciences workforce. The conference also includes sessions on professional skills, how to apply to graduate school, and more.

I enjoy playing ice hockey, as well as watching NHL hockey (especially the Dallas Stars) and college football. I also enjoy playing video games, especially with friends. My favorite travel destinations are theme parks with the best rollercoasters and cities with the tallest skyscrapers. Spending time with my wife and our two dogs is my favorite way to relax and recharge. Dogs really do make everything better. Dog pics can be found at the Photos tab!
My CV and my contact info can be found under the Contact tab. Feel free to reach out if you have any climate questions or even just want to talk hockey or dogs.
